Project T

Quest Flowchart and Dialogue

Project T takes place in a nightmarish realm created by an eldritch-like creature known as The Entity. The realm is inspired by elements of America's Deep South in the 1950s.

Below is a quest flowchart, followed by a text description of the quest with included dialogue samples.

Quests followed a narrative system I designed that dynamically adjusted dialogue based on the active party members.

0) LOADING SCREEN

(NOTE: Keaton communicates with the player characters over radio.)

​​Keaton: Thrall swarms are surroundin' us. Get a tower's generator gassed and runnin' so I can find a path through. 

1) MISSION START 

Current Objectives: Get Truck, Go to Pumpjack

(NOTE: VO is selected based on the active party members and random chance.)

Virgil: They're closin' in. Best get Keaton eyes on that tower.​​​​

​​Jacky: That idiot's driving us into every swarm out there!​​

Virgil: Think the problem is more gators than water.

​​Jacky: I don't do fucking metaphors when I'm pissed.

(5 second pause)

Keaton: Start with gettin' some gas. Get to a pumpjack.

1B) GET TRUCK

​The truck is technically optional, but the mission becomes significantly harder without it. If the player has not entered a truck within 60 seconds of match start, a VO will trigger.

Keaton: Won't live long without a truck.

Current Objectives: Go to Pumpjack

2) GO TO PUMPJACK 

The location is overrun with enemies.

Keaton: Fight your way in, it's our gas now.

Current Objectives: Take Fuel

2B) TAKE FUEL

Keaton: Alright, now find that tower.

Randomly triggered banter:

Jacky: *sniff* Don't smell like gas.

Layla: Carajo, does someone really have to tell you not to sniff gas?

Jacky: I'm saying it's not gas!

Layla: Yeah, it's Entity juice or something… doesn't make it better.

Jacky: Since when did you become the buzzkill?

Current Objectives: Go to Radio Tower

3) FIND GATE

A gate blocks the way to the tower.

 

Keaton: Y'ain't gonna let a gate stop ya.

Current Objectives: Open Gate, Go to Radio Tower

3B) OPEN GATE

Dwight: That should do it.

Current Objectives: Go to Radio Tower

4) GO TO RADIO TOWER

Keaton: See what that generator can do.

Randomly triggered banter:

Virgil: Why radio towers? Entity's buildin' our world without knowin' how it works.

Layla: Good, glad it doesn't know about Top 40 radio. This place is bullshit enough.

Current Objectives: Refuel Tower's Generator

4B) REFUEL GENERATOR

The tower activates when the generator is refueled.

Keaton: Signal's comin' in loud and clear. Get to the RV, I know the way.

Current Objectives: Escape to RV

5) GO TO RV

Mission Complete.

VOs trigger during the 'Results Screen' based on characters' accomplishments during the mission.

Virgil: Maybe they'll learn not to screw with us.

Jacky: I carried ya all but I'm not hearing any thank yous.

Willa: I have breathed in the dead—they are within me.

Dwight: Still a lot of payback owed, but that was a good start.

Layla: Middle finger to the thrall!
